The Rusty Rudder was PACKED every day and night of Memorial Day weekend. Sunday night with Blue Monday was no exception and by 11:30pm all you can say is... it was a PARTY at the Rudder! The Rudder isn't the "College/20 something" crowd anymore - just about anyone that's looking for a night of fun and people watching will enjoy an afternoon on the Patio with live music under the Tiki, or our Main Stage Bands that come on around 10pm. No matter what - the Rusty Rudder has something for everyone. DONT FORGET The Rudder is Bringing Tuesdays back with $1 Drafts, $0.50 Wings, and Live Music at the Tiki. All you can eat crab legs on Mondays too!
The weather was PERFECT for the 5th Annual Lake Norman (LKN) Beerfest held at the Galway Hooker located in Kenton Place in Cornelius. There were over 75 different craft brews to be sampled by festival goers this year. Tt's not a party without music so Gump Fiction and Joystick kept the party jammin' to great tunes throughout the event. A portion of ticket proceeds went benefit two local charities: USO of NC, and Ace & TJ's Grin Kids Children's Charity. MARK YOUR CALENDARS for CLT BeerFest at BB&T Stadium on Sept 19th, 2015! It's gonna be HUGE!
Album 1 of 2 at The Lake Norman Sandbar also known as "Beachin Island" from Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend 2015. NOTE: Album 2 of 2 is posted below the Bootleggers Album. The weather was perfect the lake temperature was a little cool but unquestionably refreshing. We haven't seen this many boats and people at the Sandbar in probably 5 years (Including Holiday Weekends). We have no idea what changed this year but there had to be 250 boats with 1000+ people rafted up in 3 primary lines. The Saturday raft was put together very well and no one had to spend much time adjusting anchors and re-setting the lines.

LKN Surf Bash - presented by Charlotte Ski boats was held this weekend at Queens Landing. Many people showed up to try out this new watersport - WakeSurfing. For those unfamiliar with WakeSurfing, read the LKNfun Article under News & Columns. You'll see the rope being used in several of the photos - the rope is typically only used to get the surfer out of the water, and for beginners while they work on "catching" the feel of the natural forward thrust of the wake. Thanks to Charlotte Ski Boats for throwing this event, and David Andrews of Performance Images for the photos.
The 50 Shades of Pink Gala to Benefit Breast Cancer was a huge success. The event was initially organized by Eric Johnson Builders and Newport Properties was one of the presenting sponsors as well. Zapata's Cantina and Mexican Restaurant is the best value in Mexican Dining at the Lake. Click Zapatas Profile page for some GREAT coupons. Zapata's just introduced a new lunch menu with great combo options starting at $5.99! While this might be $1 more than what you would pay at other Mexican establishments, the portions are larger and the quality of the ingredients they use is second to none. We eat there almost every Sunday evening and Zapatas is the only Mexican restaurant where we'll eat the chicken dishes. If you've never been - Sundays kids eat free, and our favorite entree's are the Chicken Fajita's and the Chile Relleno Burrito with Cheese Dip on top instead of the Rancho sauce (It's HUGE). If you like Spicy - ask for the Salsa Verde!
Photos from Langtree Charter Academy’s inaugural Masquerade Gala 2015 at the Historic Langtree Plantation in Mooresville, located in the heart of Lake Norman. This year’s theme was a “Masquerade Gala” where patrons enjoyed food, drinks, dancing, and a silent auction. All proceeds from this event go to the Langtree Charter Academy. This inaugural event was the “talk of the town” and attendance and participation exceeded expectations. This was the first time at the Historic Langtree plantation for many of us and it certainly won't be the last - this new location is now one of the best event Venues that Lake Norman has to offer.
For the first time ever we made it down to the Queen's Cup Steeplechase in Mineral Springs, NC and we can say for sure that it won't be the last. Even with the rainy weather - this event surpassed all expectations. We had heard about many stories about the Queen's Cup - but there's nothing like attending to really "get it". This is a fun album that should give you a great overview of the races and the festivities. If we had this much fun in the rain - just imagine a warm spring day... we'll remind you next year - this event trumps an average day on the lake... without question. This event only happens once a year the lake is there all year. For more photos from this great event click the CLTfun website link - 2 more albums will be posted by Monday afternoon.

The weather was perfect for the 2015 Annual Loch Norman Games and Scottish Festival. This Annual event draws locals and Scottish clans to Rural Hill for incredible exhibitions and competitions. The Saturday ceremonies begin with the Massed Pipe Band performance that is simply awesome to watch followed by the flag retirement ceremony. The Scottish games is a family friendly event and of course it still has adult beverages available as well. Whether you come to cheer on a competitor or just come to watch these historic games in action, the Loch Norman Games is something that all families will enjoy - even if you don't have Scottish background or family lineage.
