... and apparently, some people need a refresher course on how to act at the Sandbar. Almost got runned over several times today... a couple times by people with new boats gawking at all that is the Sandbar but don't understand that it's common courtesy (and the law) to NOT go through a congested area while throwing a wake. Par for the course for early in the season so I wasn't super peeved.
BUT what really burns my biscuits is that we also almost got plowed about four times by a line of ~8 boats who didn't have a good hook. One big cruiser didn't have a good hook and like one other boat had an anchor in. Remember, folks- an anchor isn't going to stay stuck if its hanging straight down... let out the line at least twice the depth... and ~every other boat should drop their hook. Oh, and if you DON'T get hooked and are about to run over a boat who clearly does have a good set, it's rude to give them grief about their anchor line being under your boat and poor form to ask them to move. Why? So you can run over the next boat back?
Nate- can you please post your article again? It had a lot of good pointers.

And if it's the same posting I'm thinking of, it had a list of what the minimums are to have happy boat neighbors... it listed all the ropes, anchor line lengths, bumper amounts, etc.
That was a great article for new boat owners.

I saw a few boaters have fun at the docks this last weekend....something tells me that if you're trying to dock your boat, don't try to T-Bone it! I think I threw my shoulder out trying help someone who was running into the dock at 10mph with the front of their bow. That's why I don't head to the sandbar till midseason!

That will work if the wind is blowing REALLY hard. lol However, many new owners forget to take the wind into account one way or the other.

Another fun saturday at the sandbar! I ususally get there early (before the crowd) since I'm usually wakeboarding in the early AM. I then am off the lake by midafternoon. Anyways, boating courses almost should be required before purchasing/renting a boat. I saw two boats basically drift into an anchored boat (the first time wasn't so bad, they ended up just rafting up together), the second time a few female boaters had no idea what to do as the other boats were trying to push them off (a couple people fell off the boat trying to help...either way, very dangerous). The other incident was probably about 6 boats all getting together at the sandbar at the same time and trying to raft up. Needless to say, there was a line of 6 boats drifting into 3 or 4 other single boats... New boaters, please read Nate's article, I may start printing/passing them out at the sandbar before long. Safe and happy boating!

New year, same problems... Just expect this to happen at the Rookie Bar, formally known as the sand bar. These dopes aren't cruising this web site for anchoring directions. These are the same Jack Sparrow's that throw their anchor in the opposite direction of the wind, rotate around 180 degrees and then tell you that your boat is drifting. You politely then tell the 22 year old trust fund, diaper wearing window licker that your anchor has been set for the last hour and highly suggest he reset anchor or we will sick AG on you.
